Newlands submits redesign through Additional Information

Belltown Power submits Additional Information for Newlands Hill Wind Energy Hub

The formal consultation period following submission of the Newlands Hill Wind Energy Hub S36 Application ended in September 2024. No objections from any statutory consultees were received apart from the East Lothian Council. In the period since the conclusion of the consultation period, we have undertaken a review of the application and all consultation responses and public representations received to explore potential design solutions in response to concerns raised.

Design improvements were identified and Belltown Power has made subsequent design changes to the Newlands Hill Wind Energy Hub. The design changes comprise:

  • a reduction in number of turbines from 17 to 15;
  • a decrease in tip heights of several turbines (now comprising 9 turbines at 200 metre tip height and 5 turbines at 180 metre tip height); and
  • repositioning of all the turbines.

Additional Information describing these changes and assessing the environmental impacts was submitted and published on 11th July. A 30 day consultation period commenced upon submission, ending 10th August.

The full public notice can be accessed here and all documents submitted have also been included in the AI section of Project Documents. Please see the figure presented above, which illustrates the AI Layout submitted.

Public notices advising of this AI have been published in the East Lothian Courier and Edinburgh Gazette on 10th and 11th July 2025, as well as uploaded to the ECU and ELC portals. In addition, physical copies of the submission are available during opening hours at:

  • Haddington Library; and
  • East Lothian Council Planning Office, John Muir House, Haddington.

Please refer to instructions within the public notice should you wish to make a representation regarding the Additional Information. Note that all previous representations remain valid.

Based upon the publication dates above, it has been agreed with the ECU that the public consultation will run from the 11th July 2025 to 10th August 2025.

More information will be available on this website as this S36 Application progresses and if you've not done so already you can register for updates below or get in touch with the team by emailing newlandshill@belltownpower.com.
