Education

We passionately believe in the power of education and set up the Belltown Power Education Programme in 2015 with the aim of inspiring the next generation of renewable energy professionals. Our programme supports 15 schools local to our sites and we want to grow this as new projects come on-line. Across our existing operational projects we expect to provide school visits to the sites, in-classroom activities, and bespoke educational resources to over 10,000 children across the lifetime of the projects.

We believe in education and run our Education Programme with the aim of inspiring the next generation of renewable energy professionals.

The need

The Labour party has stated its "Green Prosperity Plan" could create 650,000 jobs across the country by 2030. This number is only expected to grow as the UK drives towards its net zero commitments by 2050. Belltown's educational outreach is focused on providing engaging STEM education for primary and secondary schools surrounding our energy hubs.

There is a well-researched fall-off in engagement in STEM subjects from primary school to secondary school. Our education programme, delivered in partnership with Earth Energy Education, uses the latest education theory to inspire the next generation to pursue STEM subjects and to inspire future careers in the energy sector.

Our partners

We work with Earth Energy Education to provide site visits and class workshops to our projects where appropriate. We also work with higher education institutes on research projects, which has included research into the benefits properly managed renewable energy projects can have on their local biodiversy.

What we do

With the help of our delivery partners, Earth Energy Education, we deliver in-classroom workshops designed to provide a hands-on, experiential and fun learning experience. Examples of the projects we run include wind turbine blade design workshops and biodiversity studies. We combine our in-classrom workshops with site visits to our operational or development sites to connect in-classroom learning with real projects.

Our dedication goes beyond in-person events with our projects having made direct donations to schools where there is a need. Gatehouse ACE Academy in Dawlish, Devon, received a solar rooftop array from our Sawmills solar farm. This helps the school save on energy bills and provides students with real life learning tools to help understand the impact of renewable energy.

Case studies

To see some examples of past projects which have benefited from the Belltown Power Education Programme, please see examlpes within the case studies below. We have also implemented education programmes on some of our projects in development, including Newlands, for which we have delivered in-classroom workshops and site visits for almost 750 children from 8 local primary schools since inception.
