I joined Belltown in 2023. After finishing my undergraduate degree in cellular biology and neuroscience — and spending a couple of years planting trees and working in vineyards — I decided to focus my career on tackling climate change. I went back to university to undertake an MSc in Climate Change and Policy and then searched for a role where I felt I could make a tangible impact while developing new skills quickly. Given I don't have a conventional background in the field, I felt lucky to join Belltown, where I get to work on some of the practical, fundamental work that is needed to address climate change: developing infrastructure that helps us move away from fossil fuels.

Our work is dynamic and challenging. Projects are complex, requiring inputs from different technical fields, collaboration, and the ability to navigate risk and uncertainty. New kinds of problems emerge regularly, and I’m always learning and solving in real time — which keeps things fresh.

At Belltown, I feel my growth has been proportional to the initiative I've shown: the more I put myself forward, the more opportunities I've had to take on responsibility. That space is made possible by a culture of mutual support where colleagues are generous with their time and knowledge. This has enabled me climb the curve despite my non-conventional background, something that I think would hinder me at many larger organisations. The supportive culture also extends to caring for each other, and it’s been a pleasure to be a Mental Health First Aider.

I joined Belltown in 2016 as the junior member of a finance team of three. After working for a big company, I was looking for an opportunity where I had more challenge, responsibility and could progress quickly. Being part of a small team allowed me to learn directly from the finance director and work closely with senior management, which had a huge positive impact on my career progression. The finance team also supported me through my chartered accountant training, whilst providing me as much exposure as possible to relevant experience. At first, I was taken to meetings to listen and learn, and by now I am trusted to deliver the financial services for all our UK investor portfolios.

Belltown did not just provide me a great environment to progress in my career but also cares about its employee’s satisfaction and wellbeing. The company organized countless socials and knowledge share sessions. I tried many new sports, such as surfing, mountain biking, skiing, archery, travelled to many beautiful places both in the UK and abroad, and learned some of the basics of engineering and company law.

Belltown is very flexible with its employees regarding remote working, which allowed me to see my family back in Budapest (Hungary) on a regular basis, and therefore have a healthy work-life balance. It is rare to find a company that cares about career progression and both the physical and mental health of its employees. I feel grateful to be part of the Belltown team.

I joined Belltown in 2022 as a Junior Development Manager, after studying Climate Change Science and Policy at King’s College. I was attracted to the opportunity to take ownership of a project and to work towards a tangible outcome in combatting climate change. Before joining the company I worked for several years in the theatre and performing arts industry, and I’m grateful to Belltown for taking a chance on someone with a more unconventional background.

Since joining, I’ve worked on new wind developments in Wales, repowering wind projects in Scotland, and developing solar projects in England. I enjoy that the development managers work across every aspect of a project, from public consultations and detailed GIS analysis to working with legal agreements and planning applications. No two challenges are quite the same and I’ve learnt a huge amount in a short space of time. I’m also the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion representative, which gives a real opportunity to input into the company in a different way.

Belltown’s team is incredibly supportive and welcoming, and being part of a small company means you get to know and work with everyone personally. Flexible work hours, regular socials and a good focus on culture make Belltown a very enjoyable place to work.
