Newlands submits additional information regarding the proposed grid connection route
As part of the ongoing Public Local Inquiry process, the Newlands team have prepared an environmental assessment regarding the likely environmental effects of the Newlands Hill turbines combined with the proposed grid connection route. The proposed grid route would connect into the existing 400kV substation in the Fallago Rig Wind Farm, approximately 5km to the south of the Newlands’ on-site substation. It would comprise approx. 2.5km of new overhead line on wooden poles, and approx. 3.3km of underground cable through the Fallago Rig Wind Farm site. The planning application for the grid route itself is being progressed separately by Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) on behalf of Scottish Power Transmission (SPT) and is currently anticipated to be submitted in early 2028.
The combined environmental assessment has now been submitted as Additional Information (AI) to the DPEA, and is available to view on this website. Any person who wishes to make representations to the Scottish Ministers about the Additional Information should make them in writing on or before 9 August 2026 (quoting reference WIN-210-1) to DPEA Case Officer Morven Campbell, Planning and Environmental Appeals Division, Ground Floor, Hadrian House, Callendar Business Park, Falkirk, FK1 1XR or by email to morven.campbell@scot.gov.uk.
The AI concludes that assessing the likely environmental effects of the proposed grid route and wind farm together as if it were one project doesn’t change any of the conclusions drawn in the existing environmental impact assessment for the wind farm.
